Dr. Sydell Perlmutter Gold Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is made possible by a generous contribution from Dr. Ted Gold in memory of his wife Dr. Sydell Gold. Sydell was a pioneer for women in math and science, earning her Ph.D. in Theoretical Mathematics in 1973 when she was already the mother of three. Among her many accomplishments, Sydell served on the National Security Council under the Carter and Reagan administrations, was appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Strategic Systems and Arms Control, and established a Women's Business Forum with one company to support women in technical and management jobs. She served on numerous councils and advisory groups, often as the only woman. To honor her tremendous legacy and help other women follow in her footsteps, AFA's Dr. Sydell Perlmutter Gold Scholarship will be awarded to daughters of Air Force members pursuing a bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Education, or Mathematics (STEM) field. The award will total $20,000 payable in four annual installments of $5,000 each.
